iv CLAREMONT BAPTIST MEETING-HOUSE.

The memorial stones of the present building were laid on 2 August 1877, by Messrs. C.C. Cotes, M.P., and R. Corry. It takes the place of the meeting-house (enlarged in 1809), which was opened on 22nd September 1780, on the present site. The earlier building was in Still House Shut.

The Rev. Manoah Kent says, on 27 January 1837, when depositing the book with the Commissioners:- "Minister since 1823. My predecessor, Rev. J. Palmer, who was min. here 27 years, wrote the undernoted statement":-
