Note for the Reader.

The present volume, which is the seventeenth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Hereford, contains the Registers of Neen Savage, Kinlet, Stokesay, and Wistanstow.

The Registers are not printed in full, but, as in all previous volumes issued by the Society, in an abbreviated form which can readily be understood. Every salient fact has been recorded and all remarkable events noted in the Registers have been given in full. A list of the abbreviations adopted will be found in the " Note for the Reader," printed in many of the earlier volumes.

The value of the Stokesay and Wistanstow Registers is enhanced by the addition of the Transcripts preserved at Hereford of lost Registers, whereby the entries for many additional years have been given. The Kinlet Register is printed to 1840, a little beyond the period at which Government registration begins.

A capital letter after " of " or " p " denotes the parish whose Register is dealt with; thus " of K."=" of Kinlet," and " p. S."=" parish of Stokesay."

Thanks are due to the Incumbents for permission to print their Registers, and for the facilities afforded in their transcription and collation. Also to Mrs. Baldwyn Childe, Mr. T. R.
