Note for the Reader.

The present volume, which is the fourteenth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Hereford, concludes the Registers of Ludlow. It extends from the year 1719 to 1812, and contains the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh volumes of the Ludlow Registers.

For the transcript of the present volume, we are indebted to Mr. P. P. Medlicott and Mr. T. R. Horton. The proofs have been carefully collated with the original Registers by Mr. Henry T. Weyman, Mr. W. P. Medlicott, and the Rev. W. G. D. Fletcher. The excellent Index to the whole has been compiled by Mr. T. M. Carpendale.

Our thanks are also due to Mr. Weyman for his interesting and valuable Introductions. The Introduction to Volume I. deals with the Church and its Rectors; that to Volume II. with the Castle, the Religious Houses, the Preachers and Readers, and the dedication of the Church, and it also gives a description of the Registers contained in this volume.

A list of the abbreviations adopted will bc found in the "Note for the Reader" at the commencement of the first volume.

It has been only possible to print the Register of Ludlow through the generous aid of the late Mrs. Seymour, the sister of the late Mr. Stanley Leighton, M.P., the founder of the Shropshire Parish Register Society.
