Note for the Reader.

The present is the seventh volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield, which has been completed by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. It consists of the Registers of Montford, Clive, Sheriffhales, and Hordley.

In this volume. as has been the plan adopted by the Council throughout, the Registers are not printed verbatim et literatim, but in abstract form, all mere verbiage being omitted, though every fact is recorded, and all occurrences, remarkable events, terriers, &c.. given in the Registers are printed in full. The following abbreviations have been adopted:-

A capital letter after " of " or "p." denotes the parish whose particular Register is being printed ; thus "of H." = "of Hordley," and " p. S.H." = " parish of Sheriffhales."

Thanks are due to the incumbents of the parishes for leave to print the Registers. and for facilities afforded in their transcription and collation. Also to the Revds. J.E. Auden, and L.M. Owen for transcribing, to Miss Kenyon for collating, to the Rev. A.T. Michell for transcribing. collating, and indexing his own Register. and to Mr. R. Ll. Kenyon and others for much help in compiling the valuable historical introductions.

It should be pointed out that by a slip of the printer there is an error in the pagination. the second or volume pagination running on from page 388 to 390.
